It's a Bow Street Marathon! This week's blog post marks the third one in a row. Introducing the well-loved River House! Located on 53 Bow Street in Portsmouth, NH. Just in time for Hit the Decks this Friday, May 10th. Who better to talk about the River House than General Manager and Owner, Peter Labrie?
Thanks for having us, Peter, please tell us a bit about this well known restaurant.
The River House is a casual waterfront dining at its best... Although we are known for having one of the best Piscataqua River views, overlooking the Tugboats which must be the most photographed boats on the East Coast, this is not why people keep coming back... It's the food, the service and relaxed atmosphere!
It took me over 20 years to open the River House, a tremendous amount of time and energy went into the planning of this restaurant over the years and service and food quality have always been our priority which is why we hired Gerry Walsh to be our chef. Gerry is an amazing local chef known in the North East for his culinary repertoire... especially his seafood chowder! Gerry's seafood chowder has won countless competitions and was even voted New England's Best by NECN out of Boston!
What do you have in store for us today?
We presented The Port's Mouth with some of our most popular Summer dishes! The first is the Seafood Chowder which has hearty, rich, creamy clam stock brimming with lobster, scallops, shrimp, clams and haddock.
Next up is the Asian Tuna Tartare Wontons. What is this exactly?
It is a diced sushi grade yellow fin tuna flash marinated and served on wonton crisps over a bed of crunch Asian slaw and Seseme Seaweed salad.
And finally we have the Sauteed Mussels.
A heaping bowl of fresh mussels served with grilled bread for sopping up the juices. We served Port's Mouth the Gorgonzola cream, but it is also served Cajun or Classic!

Portsmouth and the surrounding seacoast area is absolutely amazing! My brother and I, who is also my business partner, were both born and raised here in the Seacoast and love being a part of such a vibrant community. In an effort to give back to the community that supports us, The River House is the season sponsor for the Portsmouth Music Hall and works with Prescott Park to put on The River House Restaurant Wednesday Night Concert Series in the Park!
